Under the patronage of Azza bint Sulaiman al-Isma’eeli, Oman’s Minister of Technology and Communications, the Oman Hydrogen Centre was opened on the campus of the German Technical University (GUtech).

The opening ceremony was attended by Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Salmi, Minister of Religious Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad al-Rumhi, Minister of Oil and Gas, and a high-ranking representative from research, technology and industry, as well as dignitaries and experts from the oil and gas industry.

The importance of hydrogen as an energy carrier for the future of Oman was vividly highlighted in the opening speech by Olav Carlsen, CFO of Hydrogen Rise AG, as co-initiator and founding partner of the centre.

The new innovation centre is to play a leading role in the development of a hydrogen economy in cooperation with local and international partners from research, education and industry in the Arab region. One of the most important goals would be to support the government and the energy industry of Oman in building a clean hydrogen industry in the best possible way.
