The German University of Technology (GUtech) and the German company Hydrogen Rise AG have launched the “Oman Hydrogen Initiative” in order to create a broad dialogue on the economic potential of (green) hydrogen produced with renewable energies in the Sultanate.

“The international demand for green hydrogen as an energy carrier and industrial raw material will grow steadily according to all relevant energy institutions. Furthermore, it has the potential to increasingly substitute oil and natural gas. For this reason, it is very important to develop competencies at an early stage and to strive for a positioning in this promising new field of action”, emphasizes Olav Carlsen, CFO of Hydrogen Rise AG from Germany and co-initiator of the Oman Hydrogen Initiative.

The aim of the “Oman Hydrogen Initiative” is to create an active dialogue, to hold workshops and to initiate and support the transformation of the energy industry in Oman with symposia.

In particular, it is also intended to support the development of academic, technological and economic hydrogen know-how in Oman and in the entire Arab region. To this end, the initiative will work in close cooperation with scientific and industrial partners in Oman and Germany as well as governmental organizations. For the Rector of the German University of Technology in Oman, Prof. Dr. Michael Modigell, the fields of application are particularly diverse, because “regeneratively produced hydrogen and its technologies will play an essential role in the future of the global energy, metal, chemical and mobility industries”.
