Dr.-Ing. Bernd Wiemann

Dr.-Ing. Bernd Wiemann fulfilled various roles in Computer-, Telecommunication- and Mechanical engineering for Research, Development and Marketing.

After positions as development engineer for real time computing systems and as head of Marketing at PCS GmbH, a Munich based innovative computer manufacturer, he was the founding managing director of Mannesmann Pilotentwicklung GmbH (1992), Mannesmann Transmodal GmbH and later the Vodafone Pilotentwicklung GmbH. His last function in the Vodafone Group was Head of Group R&D Advanced Research (2011).

Parallel to that, he was initiator, board member and chairman of different organisations and institutions such as the Mobile Broadcast Convergence Forum (bmco forum) the amina foundation and the trans-disciplinary art and technology platform: pilotraum 01 e.V.

The research activities were focused on technology based product creation and prototyping to enable new markets for Mannesmann and later on for Vodafone.

Main research topics were GPS-based road-telematics and road tolling, car-to-car communication, product planning for hydrogen infrastructures, fuel-cell management for cars, hydrogen-carbon pressure vessels, revolutionary (freight-) container handling technologies (Transmodal GmbH), mobile Health, mobile TV and other areas.

As serial entrepreneur, he is co-founder of privately held companies (Softing GmbH, deep innovation gmbh) and co-initiator of Mannesmann subsidiaries for Carbon high pressure vessels, Mannesmann Transmodal GmbH (Multimodal Container Mgt.), Mannesmann Trust Center (eTrust Solutions) and Mannesmann Autocom (Telematics) – in different roles: initiation, preparation and/or operation. Over the transition from Mannesmann to Vodafone, he initiated and managed several spin-outs (P21 Power of the 21 Century (Fuel cells), Future Camp GmbH (Innovation Management) and Future Carbon GmbH (carbon nanomaterials).

He is co-author of Future Studies of Münchner Kreis e.V and co-initiator of the mobil@all initiative of the Munich Network.

He holds degrees in the fields of Control Technology from University for Applied Science Furtwangen (Dipl.-Ing. FH) and for Communications Engineering, Real time Computing and Cybernetics from the Technical University Munich (Dr.-Ing.) and several Patents in this fields.
